John Arne Riise (born 24 September 1980 in Ålesund, Norway) is a former professional footballer best known for his long and successful spell with Liverpool. A powerful left-back, Riise was renowned for his exceptional stamina, long-range shooting, and thunderous left foot.

Riise began his professional career in Norway with Aalesunds FK before moving to AS Monaco, where he won the Ligue 1 title in 2000. He joined Liverpool in 2001 and spent seven seasons at Anfield, making over 300 appearances for the club. During this period, he won the UEFA Champions League in 2005, the FA Cup in 2006, and the League Cup, becoming a key figure in one of Liverpool’s most successful modern eras.

After leaving Liverpool in 2008, Riise played for AS Roma, Fulham, and clubs in Cyprus and India, continuing his career at both club and international level. He earned 110 caps for Norway, making him one of the country’s most capped players.

Since retiring, Riise has remained involved in football through coaching, media work, and ambassadorial roles, and is widely remembered as one of the most distinctive left-backs of his generation.
