One of the rare football stars to hold the honor of captaining both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, former Bafana Bafana right-back Jimmy Tau is officially making his debut on the fairways for Team South Africa. After winning the league with Pirates, Tau enjoyed an eight-year tenure at Chiefs collecting major trophies while earning multiple caps for the national team.

Following his distinguished playing career, Tau seamlessly transitioned into broadcasting, establishing himself as one of the country's most popular pundits. Renowned for his charisma, tactical intelligence, and composure under intense pressure, Tau has developed into a dedicated and highly skilled golfer playing off a single-figure 6 handicap. His big-match mentality and sharp focus bring valuable athletic pedigree to Ernie Els’s host-nation locker room.

Tau’s inclusion gives Team SA vital extra depth as they prepare to defend home turf in George from 11–13 December 2026.
