WALLABY GREAT GEORGE GREGAN BRINGS RUGBY RIVALRY TO THE FAIRWAYS FOR ICONS CUP SOUTH AFRICA

World Cup winner and Australian rugby icon returns to the golf course for his third Icons Series appearance, teaming up with compatriot Ash Barty at The Links at Fancourt this December.

One of the most tactical generals and fierce competitors in international rugby history, former Wallabies captain George Gregan is officially switching disciplines to bring one of sport’s legendary international rivalries to the fairways. A 1999 World Cup winner and World Rugby Hall of Famer who amassed 139 caps for Australia, Gregan is also a deeply passionate golfer playing off a single-figure 5 handicap.

Having featured in two previous Icons events, Gregan brings proven match-play experience, tactical intelligence, and big-match composure to captain José María Olazábal’s international squad. His return sets up an exciting Australian partnership, joining forces once again with fellow compatriot and three-time Grand Slam champion Ash Barty.

Gregan’s inclusion takes the historic Springbok-Wallaby rivalry out of the rugby stadium and onto the golf course, lining him up directly against host-nation heavyweights Fourie du Preez, Victor Matfield, Schalk Burger, and Butch James.

He joins a stacked Team World roster that already boasts tennis star Ash Barty, football icons John Terry and Dwight Yorke, cricket powerhouses Brian Lara and Yuvraj Singh, and captain José María Olazábal.

Keep an eye on icons-series.com as both captains roll out their remaining roster selections in the buildup to December.
